My love dogs and dog training started when I was 9 years of age. Over the span of the last twenty five years training dogs, I have been able to share the knowledge and experiences I've gained with a vast number of people who are now living happy and enjoyable lives with their dogs.

I have trained with the Gosnells Dog Obedience Club, Cloverdale Companions,
Mundaring Dog Obedience Club and met some wonderfully talented trainers and instructors along the way. Over my career I have undertaken many courses in dog training and behaviour. As a Certified Pet Dog Trainer (CPDT) I continue to keep abreast of new training and techniques through attending seminars, ongoing study, research and workshops. I am a member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers (APDT) and an accredited instructor with the Canine Evaluators of Australasia. I have instructed at numerous clubs, conducted workshops, clinics and classes covering all aspects of dog handling, behaviour and management. I was actively employed by the Animal Management and Resource Extension Services for eight years.

It all started when my parents used to take me for my weekly horse riding lessons at a local school. This continued for about three years until finally my mother told me if I needed to ride so badly then I’d better find the 12 shillings a week for my lesson. From that day onwards dogs have been an integral part of my life. I took up walking the local neighbor’s dogs for 2 shillings and 6 pence an hour. Soon I was managing to handle two or three dogs at a time and this certainly paid for the riding lessons.

I can remember one dog in particular, a large male Great Dane called Dan. He was almost as tall as me when standing on all fours, heavens knows what would have happened had he ever jumped on me. Dan was a lovely boy who resided in a unit on the seventh floor, in those days there was only one way up or down – stairs! Dan, well lovely as he was he pulled like a train and I don’t ever remember my feet touching a single step on the way down. Once out on the street I would grab a lamp post as he hurtled me along the footpath and the only time I got to draw breath was when he stopped to lets say water the post! This had to stop!

With a farm background and some pony handling skills I began developing my own unique way of communicating and training dogs. With the success of Dan under my belt, I was soon being paid to train people’s dogs in everyday good behaviour.

Leaving England in 1972 to live in Western Australia, I soon found myself back involved with training and educating horses but dogs were still very much a part of my daily life. During the eighties I was employed as a Kennel Maid then Vet Nurse and finally a Veterinary Practice Manager. In 1994 I joined the Animal Management Resource Extension Programme as an instructor/behavioural consultant working with wide range of dogs and peopleover a period of eight years.

My first Aussie dog was a cute little Yellow Labrador pup that I named Sebastian. It was not long before we joined the WA Gun Dog Club attending training and eventually got involved in competitive obedience trials and competitions. He was soon joined by a female Black Labrador called Shadow and eventually Pancho a golden Retriever cross joined the team.

As time passed I owned and trained many breeds like the German Shepherd, Bull Terrier, Australian Cattle Dog, Kelpie, Doberman,Border Collies, Australian Shepherds and Greyhounds.

It now gives me enormous satisfaction to be able to share my knowledge and help owners to train their dogs and gain a better understanding of canine communication leading to more enjoyment in their lives together.
